Lighting is something that can often be forgotten when it comes to redoing a room or a space in your house. We tend to overlook it for more tangible furniture pieces like beds and couches or smaller decor items. But lighting can have a huge impact on the feel and style of a space!
If you walk around our house, you’ll notice light fixtures of varying colors and textures. You’ll also see that nothing is too matchy-matchy. This is intentional! Light fixtures can be so beautiful, I think it’s fun to make them unique to each room.
Mixing light fixtures can be an easy way to dip your toe into mixing textures and finishes. Some of my favorite combos are: Mixing different gold finishes, shiny and matte, brighter and darker. Woven textures with wood. Black with brass. Woven textures with brass. And polished nickel with brushed brass. You’ll notice I like brass with most things! lol
Don’t be afraid to take risks when choosing your lighting. Pick a statement that draws your eye, if that’s what you like. Think the hand sconce in the green bathroom or our living room chandelier. And keep in mind that while they don’t have to match exactly, you will want them to tie into the room somehow. So maybe a brass fixture goes well with your brass drawer pulls. They subtly tie into each other enough to bring the room together, but not so much that it’s obvious! You want it to feel effortless, but intentional. Not overly precise and planned out. Basically all of the things. Below are some of my current faves that we have in the house!
