Whenever I go thrifting, if there’s one thing I find that makes me feel like I won the jackpot, its a good, unique basket. I love thrifting baskets and it’s one thing that is usually on the easier side to find. Right now most of my basket finds are being rounded up for The Fox Mercantile , when we open a brick and mortar for that! We’ll be using them to hold products and for display purposes - functional, fun and unique! But I wanted to give you a few other ways that you can use thrifted baskets in your own home....
1. For blankets:
I think we all have had the idea to put a blanket in a basket, so this isn’t out of the box, but a decent sized basket is perfect for holding any extra blankets you may have laying around. This way they are within reach for a movie night or can be neatly stored away. But don’t let this be an excuse to become a blanket fiend. You know we like to be on the more minimal side of things, so in my opinion, there
is
such a thing as too many blankets!
2. For hidden storage:
A basket without a lid, can be stored within a cabinet or drawer and used to contain things. An example would be putting your hair tools in a basket under your bathroom sink, or extra linens in a basket in a closet. Of course baskets without lids can be stored in the open too, you might just be more selective with what you put in them. The nice thing about this is that the baskets don’t really have to match because you won’t see them, which is great because it might be harder to find a match while thrifting. But also, not matching is a statement of it's own!
3. For decorative storage: If your basket has a lid, it is perfect for storage in plain sight, meaning it hides the contents. Use these for things you have laying around that you need, but don’t want to look at, like charging cables. Or if your basket makes a great tray, use it to corral the book you’re reading or as a place to keep your TV remote, so it doesn’t get lost so easily. A bowl shaped basket would make a great fruit bowl.
4. For outside the box design:
You know I love outside the box design, so finding new uses for ordinary things is kinda my jam. You’ve probably seen those basket walls on Pinterest. Take some of your favorite finds and display them on a wall above your couch or as a feature wall in your kitchen. Use a light kit to turn one into a hanging light for above your island or find a matching set to use as sconces in a bathroom. Don’t be afraid to think differently and uniquely!
I could go on and on about how you can use thrifted baskets in your own home, but I think you get the idea. And these are really good starting points. Share with me if you use any of these tips in your own home!
