I wanted to give our porch a little update while we wait to renovate and switch things up and you know I love me a good paintin' project ! Simple and quick fix? I painted the front door, swapped out the lights , and then added a little bit of Christmas charm since it's that time of year!
I started by painting the door to brighten it up - using Ben Moore White Dove, which is one of my go - to's. It's a warmer white without red undertones - it's just perfection. Here is where I think some may not necessarily think outside of the box...I also painted the trim the same color as the door! Yep, all one color, the whole thing...bing bam boom. Doing this gives the illusion of grandeur, and the trim doesn't cut the door from the window...it all flows as one.
We have a small front door and a big entryway, so this is a little trick to make it feel the whole this feel match and feel bigger. It elevated it without having to rip out the door! If you don’t want to buy a gallon of paint for this project, get creative and use leftover paint you have around or just buy a small can of exterior paint, and make it work!
The lights were an another easy update. I got mine for under $50 and they come in black too! If you don’t want to completely replace your lights and you have something that will work but it isn’t exactly what you want, spray paint them! Take them off, tape off whatever you don’t want painted, and then spray away! There are different brands of spray paint, but the Rustoleum Modern Farmhouse is my favorite, goes on like a dream.
And then, I always like to use the vintage bulbs to make them look a little fancier. It's just a simple touch you think you won't notice, but you do.
